Flight to Chennai and drive to Mahabalipuram. En route visit one of the biggest in Asia Crocodile & Snake Park. Rest of the day at leisure. Taste variety of freshly caught fish at fish restaurant.
MAHABALIPURAM SIGHTSEEING - PONDICHERRY
After breakfast, sightseeing of Mahabalipuram: visit Thirukadalmalli temple, Krishna Mandapam, Arjuna's Penance, and Pancha Pandava Rathas. Also see Krishna's Butterball - a giant natural rock perched on a hillside, seemingly in defiance of all laws of physics. It's a common sight to see visitors placing hands under the stone posing for pictures as though they are holding it. The rock provides welcome shade if you dare to sit underneath it. Proceed to Pondicherry. Overnight at hotel.
EXCURSION TO AUROVILLE & CHIDAMBARAM
Morning visit to Shri Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville. Matrimandir - "Temple of the Mother" in Sanskrit - is the geographical and spiritual heart of Auroville. Its outside is plated with gold and surounded by lovely park. Then proceed to Chidambaram - the site of numerous temples. Nataraja temple located there is one of the most significant in India. In terms of its antiquity, richness of worship & festival traditions, architectural & sculptural splendour, association with music & dance, Chidambaram is a center representing the rich cultural heritage of India.
MAHABALIPURAM – VILLUPURAM – MADURAI
Morning trasnfer to Villupuram railway station to board Guruvayur Express train to Madurai. On arrival at Madurai transfer to hotel. Later attend evening Aarti - fire ceremony in Meenakshi temple.
Madurai – Munnar
After early breakfast drive through sprawling tea gardens, lakes, waterfalls and spice plantations to Munnar. Situated at the confluence of three mountain streams and perched about 1600 meters above sea level Munnar is the most popular hill station in South India. Evening enjoy one of the oldest theatre forms in the world - Kathakali dance performance, followed by Kalaripayattu - indigenous Kerala martial art form. It is the oldest existing martial art dating back to more than 2000 years and believed to be the ancestor of Chinese martial arts, which Buddhist monks took to China.
Munnar – Thattekad
Drive to Thattekad. Stop to smell growing peppers, cardamon and cinnamon at spice plantation on the way. Thattekad is located on Njiyapilli hill and is well known for Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. Find out about rubber plants, how rubber is collected and treated while going through rubber plantations. The sanctuary was named after the great ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. He conducted a survey and found that this area attracted the highest number of birds in India.
Thattekad – Alleppey
Morning reach Alleppey and take a cruise on Kerala backwaters. Here a rich patchwork of rice paddies and palm groves is interwoven with a web of alluring waterways – the world-famous Kerala backwaters. Like the peaceful flow of water in channels, life here goes at gentle pace. It is a perfect place to relax and slow down. Your boat crew will buy vegetables or freshly caught fish from locals and have it cooked for you on board. Savour fragrant South Indian lunch in open air. Overnight on houseboat.
ALLEPPEY – KOVALAM
